78 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 22 % Merlot.

Very aromatic with cassis and stone character that follows through to a medium to full body, silky tannins and a fresh finish. Fine texture. Try in 2022.

The 2014 Haut Batailley has a very subtle bouquet, one that bided its time in the glass and then unfolded with scents of blackberry, briary, pencil box and light graphite scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, moderate weight, classic and perhaps conservative in style. Yet the harmony is just wonderful and it slips down the throat almost too easily. As such, I feel this is a more approachable Haut-Batailley compared to other vintages, yet it has the body to reward three of four years of bottle age.<br/>

Solidly built, with a core of cassis, plum and anise that builds nicely, backed by brambly grip and a well-buried iron note. The finish is a bit rugged, but the fruit and minerality pump throughout in unison. Should round into form with cellaring. Best from 2019 through 2029. 6,250 cases made.

Château Haut Batailley

A relatively new arrival on the Bordeaux scene, Château Haut-Batailley was historically part of Château Batailley, one of the oldest and largest estates in Pauillac. The Borie family, owners of the Batailley estate since 1931, had in fact been managing the property long before that date, starting from the late 1860s. In 1942, the family decided to divide the estate to avoid future inheritance issues: Marcel, the son, received the larger share, including the building and the name Château Batailley, while the remaining part of the estate went to his brother François, under the name Château Haut-Batailley.
In 2017, the estate was acquired by the Cazes family, already owners of Château Lynch-Bages, who undertook significant renovation and expansion work. Today, Château Haut-Batailley covers 41 hectares and remains classified as a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé. The vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, and produces elegant and refined wines that reflect the typical character of the Pauillac terroir.
