Extremely aromatic with violets and other flowers, together with some blackberries and dried fruit, such as figs. Dried olives, too. Full-bodied and beautifully ripe with a rich palate and fine, chewy tannins. Yet, it turns fine and polished at the end. Made by Guillaume Thienpoint, the son of the winemaker at Le Pin and VCC. A blend of 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc. 5,500 bottles made from only 2.5 hectares. Try after 2027.
Producer
Château Guillot Clauzel
Located next to châteaux Guillot and Le Pin, Château Guillot Clauzel is a microscopic Pomerol estate (only 1.7 hectares - even smaller than Le Pin). Their vineyards are known to be very old and obviously well located. They are planted to Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%) and its wines are aged in 50% new French oak barrels. Despite its exceptional site, the wines remain relatively unknown. It also produces a second wine called Guillotière de Guillot Clauzel.
