Château Fortia was created by the Bernard Le Saint family. After World War I, its young female owner married Baron le Roy de Boiseaumarie, a man from a military family who had been educated as a lawyer and served with honor as a pilot in the war. He was elected as a leader in Châteauneuf who helped bring vision to an otherwise struggling economy and winemaking region. He helped establish the AOC rules that are still followed today, only allowing authorized grape varieties to be used, in vineyards that lie within demarcated areas. Today, the domaine is run by his family, the third generation of descendants. They currently own 30 hectares of vines from which they produce 5 different wines.
