(aged in 75% new oak): Good deep red. Musky, deep aromas of raspberry, chocolate and nutty oak. A step up in intensity and definition from the basic cuvee, with sweet red fruit and cocoa powder flavors complemented by burnished wood tones. Lovely energy for such a broad wine. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins. Today I find this more vibrant than the 2012 version.
Producer
Château de la Tour
Burgundy’s most influential winemaker, François Labet leads this wonderful Clos-de-Vougeot estate, Château de La Tour in addition to his other label Domaine Pierre Labet. This unique domaine possesses the largest single Grand Cru vineyard in the Côte de Nuits. Averaging in at 6-hectares, de La Tour is the only producer that harvests, vinifies and bottles its Clos Vougeot Grand Cru within the walls of the appellation. Built in the late 19th century by ancestors of the Labet and Déchelette families, the château continues to produce first-rate traditional wines. Preserving the traditional know-how through organic farming and whole cluster fermentation, Labet flawlessly pairs these historic ideals with modernity, using stainless-steel vats and pneumatic presses as well. Bottled without fining or filtration, the indigenously styled wines are densely fruited, showing the incredible depth of an exemplary Burgundian.
