Château de Fontenille

Situated on the sun-bathed gravelly terroirs near the Abbey of La Suve Majeure, Château de Fontenille sits within the Entre-Deux-Mers appellation. The moderate temperature and unique aromatic soils provide the ideal location to produce a wide range of wines. With a far-reaching history, the property has seen a huge increase in recognition under the ownership of Stéphane Defraine, a viticultural genius, since 1989. While the region is celebrated for their white wines, the 49-hectare property is primarily planted to red varieties, with a mere 17-hectares dedicated to white. Defraine is admired not only for his focus on sustainable agriculture practices and clonal selection in the vineyards, but also for his approach to winemaking. He makes wines that are genuine to the source, true, exemplary Entre-Deux-Mers. His Cabernet Franc rosé, Bordeaux Clairet, is a particular gallant wine.
