Drei Mal verkostet. 18/20 2022 – 2047

The 2014 Clerc Milon is more backward on the nose compared to the d'Armailhac: quite sumptuous in style with black fruit, dark plum, vanilla and a pungent violet scent. The palate is wonderful: a fabulous line of acidity, tensile and focused, mineral and intense with blackberry, citrus fruit, bilberry and cedar towards the elegant, yet intense finish. There is something almost Lafite-like about this Clerc-Milon and in my book, there is nothing wrong with that.<br/>

This is defined by a large, rounded core of enticing cassis, cherry preserves and plum compote, while light anise and briar notes hang in the background. Offers an ample spine for balance, but this feels like it may be approachable sooner because of that ball of fruit. Best from 2018 through 2028.
Producer
Château Clerc Milon
Assuming her father’s role, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild took over the then small village house in Pauillac until her passing in 2014, transforming the property into the glorious Château Clerc Milon that we know of today. The late Baroness Philippine headed grand innovations during her leadership. In 2007, the new gravity-feed vat room was constructed, while in 2011, they built a cellar, a half-underground barrel hall, a reception area and several tasting rooms. With its status as a Classified Growth restored, after the famous 1855 Classification, their wines are well-rounded and surprisingly approachable for Pauillac. Their 40-hectare property should not to be overshadowed by its neighbor and otherwise sister château, Château Mouton Rothschild. They continually produce quality blends with present Merlot – showing ripe and plummy components that are more than unique to Château Clerc Milon.
