Château Cantegril was owned by the “godfather of white wine” in Bordeaux, Dénis Dubourdieu of Château Doisy-Daëne and Clos Floridène. The estate is a 22-hectare single block of enclosed vineyards which are situated on the calcareous plateau of Haut-Barsac. It has had an expansive noble history having belonged successively to the Duke of Epernon and the Lords of Cantegril, one of whom married a young lady of the Myrat Family and had the present-day Château Myrat built on a part of the Cantegril Estate. Cantegril’s vineyard is currently composed of 18.3 hectares. It is made up of 65 % Sémillon and 35 % Sauvignon. On average the vines are over 30 years old. Its wines are produced in a similar style to Doisy-Daëne in terms of their fresh fruit flavors, but with a lighter, more direct touch. They generally offer good value being well made, reliable and modestly priced.
