18 Rene Gabriel
60 % Merlot, 32 % Cabernet Franc, 8 % Cabernet Sauvignon.

92 Vinous
The 2011 Canon-la-Gaffelière has a lovely nose with brambly red fruit, rose petal and certainly more vigour than many of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with a piquant entry, raspberry and mulberry laced with white pepper and clove, with a fine and quite cohesive finish. This is ageing well in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Château Canon La Gaffelière
Château Canon-la-Gaffelière lies just south of the medieval village of Saint-Émilion amongst the lower-lying limestone slopes of the appellation. The nearly 20-hectare vineyard is currently owned and run by Stéphan von Neipperg, who owns the Saint-Émilion Clos de l’Oratoire, as well as the overachieving Château d’Aiguilhe in Côtes de Castillon. Canon-la-Gaffelière is now one of von Neipperg’s remarkable labels, classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B property, the château fluently exemplifies his new vision. The style here, as with all of his wines, is sumptuous and supple, with meticulously unified oak and soft, velvety tannins making the blend unpredictably approachable after just three or four years’ patience. As of 2014, the estate has been completely Certified Organic. Headed by Stéphan, this step forward, supported by his tireless efforts in both the modernization of the viticulture and viniculture practices, are vital components that contribute to the château’s overall success. The Grand Vin, Canon-la-Gaffelière, vintage after vintage is elegant, well-structured and unfailing long on the palate.
