Sattes Purpur-Granat. 18/20 2020 – 2038

The plum and blackberry fruit is pushed by a lively bramble note, while anise and singed apple wood accents check in on the finish. Shows lots of energy on the back end. Solid.—J.M.

When I tasted the 2014 Bellevue from barrel, it seemed a little overawed by the 2014 Angélus. Now in bottle, I am not really inclined to alter that view. The nose is clean and delineated, quite "cool" and maybe even a little distant. The aromatics do not come out and make friends. The palate is medium-bodied with rather scrawny tannin that try to dominate the broody red berry fruit. There is a hardness here and a touch of austerity, which is surprising coming from this estate. This is perplexing.<br/>

Château Bellevue
Château Bellevue was originally owned by the two families behind the famed Horeau-Beylot négociant house – de Conink and Pradel de Lavaux. However, in September of 2007, Chateau Angélus purchased a fifty-percent share of the company. Neighboring châteaux Angélus, Beaséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse and Beau-Séjour Bécot, this acquisition was based on the property’s vicinity, as well as its top terroir. But this purchase was already a previous dream of Maurice de Boüard de Laforest, in 1938 he had hoped to buy this estate and seventy years later his children and grand-children have realized his dream. Today, the de Lavaux family stills owns fifty-percent of the property. Together, the two families work side by side to produced incredible wines with the help of vinous experts, Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt.
