Ama's 2010 L'Apparita is super-intriguing from the very first taste. With each passing vintage, it seems like Apparita becomes less about Merlot and more about Ama. Dark red cherries, rose petals, sage, rosemary, tobacco and licorice are some of the many notes that are alive in the glass. Wonderfully nuanced and expressive, the 2010 caresses every corner of the palate with breathtaking intensity and finesse. The 2010 isn't a huge Apparita, rather it is a cool vintage, savory Merlot built for the cellar.
95 James Suckling
A classic merlot with blackcurrants, dark chocolate and hints of new wood. Full-bodied, firm and chewy. This is layered and very powerful but shows intensity and reserve. Needs time to soften: better in 2016.
94 Robert Parker
The 2010 L’Apparita is a pure expression of Merlot with bold fruit nuances of cherry and black fruit at the core. This vintage is especially sophisticated and fine: Evidently those cooling diurnal shifts during the growing season have contributed to the overall elegance and prestige of this beautiful varietal wine. It promises a slow and steady evolution over the next ten years. Drink: 2015-2028

Pure cherry underlies the spicy oak in this dense, focused red. Bright and balanced, picking up cedar, floral and mineral elements on the lingering aftertaste. Merlot. Best from 2016 through 2025. 580 cases made.

Castello di Ama
Castello di Ama, located in Gaiole, is a premium winery in the heart of Chianti Classico. Founded in the 1970s by four Roman families, Castello di Ama has been run since 1982 by trusted winemaker Marco Pallanti and his wife, Lorenza Sebasti, who is also the CEO of the winery. While Castello di Ama is known today for producing Tuscany’s first great Merlot – their L’Apparita, they also craft two smaller versions of single-vineyard Chianti Classico blends, Vigneto La Casuccia and Vigneto Bellavista. This reference-point Tuscan grower-producer is made up of 210-hectares. Of that there are 75-hectares under vine, 45-hectares of olive trees and 100-hectares of woodland and has some of the most beautiful vistas of the Chianti Classico region. Castello di Ama creates extraordinary wines with seven reds, one white, one rosé and one sweet wine currently in production.
