Fairly deep color. Dramatic, rich, complex, intense, fruit-filled nose features dark berries, chocolate, leather, and smoke. On the palate, this Dolcetto is big, rich, and unbelievably extracted. The wine gets a perfect 100 for texture. We are staggered at how rich and complex it is, a wine with shocking depth and palate presence. Can this really be Dolcetto? There is modest tannin, suggesting that it won’t go over the hill anytime soon. Extremely long, slightly tart finish. Bravo to Brovia, this was a “transcendental” wine, without question the greatest Dolcetto we’ve ever tasted! Available from Sussex Wines in NY for $44.
Producer
Brovia
Producing terroir-driven wines from Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d’Alba, the estate is based in the center of the Barolo district. Established in 1863 by Giacinto Brovia, the estate has remained in the family and has been handed down from generation to generation. Owning 19-hectares, 5 of which based in Castiglione Falletto and 12 in Serralunga, the vineyards encompass several of the best Cru in Piedmont including the areas of Rocche, Villero and Garblét Sue, each Cru in Castiglione and Brea in Serralunga. Organically farmed, the family uses a hands-off philosophy, letting nature take its course. The resulting wines are elegant and extremely true to their origins, highlighting each and every aspect of their unique terroirs.
