This is a heroic edition of one of Italy's most celebrated wines. The 2013 Barbera d'Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone is dark and penetrating with a gorgeous sense of purity and richness. The wine unfolds slowly to reveal dried blueberry, spice, toasted almond and dark earth. Those characteristics are warm and tightly woven together. You get a sense of the grape's acidity but not in an obvious way. It serves to add brightness and energy to the overall mouthfeel. This is a beautiful wine.<br/>The Bologna family delivers an excellent set of wines from the 2013 and 2014 vintages. The 2013 Barbera d'Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone is the best edition released in recent memory.

Sweet blackberry and plum fruit gets a lift from vanilla and other spices in this polished red. Fresh and long, echoing the fruit and spice elements on the finish. Drink now through 2020. 5,000 cases made. –BS
Producer
Braida
Certainly, the name Giacomo Bologna has become synonymous with Barbera d’Asti. He was one of Piedmont’s greatest innovators and personalities. He inherited the vineyards, the nickname “Braida” and the passion for viniculture and viticulture from his father, Giuseppe Bologna. So much so, that in 1961 Giacomo created Braida in Rocchetta Tanaro. Giacomo is remembered for his determined spirit, and his belief in Barbera’s potential. He became one of the first to use French-oak casks to vinify his best grapes –raising the overall quality from a traditional table Barbera to a fine wine. He was also one of the first producers in Piedmont to export their wines, exposing Italian wines to the world market. Today, the estate is run by another generation, whom also happen to be oenologists, Raffaella and Giuseppe Bologna, their flagship Barbera, Bricco dell’Uccellone, that was created in 1982 was the first Super-Barbera, and has become one of the world’s unsurpassable Italian wines.
