Sandwiched between Alicante and Murcia, Bodegas Atalaya lies in the eastern Albacete Province falling into the Almansa DO. This relatively new venture was introduced by the Gil Family Group with their first vintage being the 2007. The estate sits between the Castilian Plateau and the Mediterranean Sea, benefiting from a continental micro-climate with easy sea breezes. At an altitude of 800 meters above sea level, the vineyards are planted on chiefly limestone soils. The Australian enologist of Spanish origin, Frank Gonzales, heads vinification here, instilling the family’s goal to produce genuine terroir-driven reds. Using emblematic varieties, like native Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell, all of the wines successfully express the extraordinary qualities of these grapes but also the territory. The resulting collection of exuberant and harmonious reds are sensational Spanish values.
