Located on the edge of the Umbrian border, Avignonesi is one of the most important producers of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Stretching over Montepulciano and Cortona, the Avignonesi estate consists of eight separate vineyards. Each with their very own soils and micro-climates, their Montepulciano estate remains one of the most diverse and largest in Tuscany. Due to their enormous property, the large terrestrial variations allow Avignonesi to plant several grape varieties - Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. Since 1988, Avignonesi has been working side by side with the Capannelle estate, a leading Chianti producer from Gaiole. This historical duo produces 50 & 50 – a wine that is characterized by its silky elegant Merlot and distinct, rustic Sangiovese. The blend is equal parts Merlot (from Montepulciano) and Sangiovese (from Gaiole), aged for 24 months in French oak. With both estates contributing their top grapes to 50 & 50, the wine is more than a five-star culmination of this iconic partnership.
