The 2015 Valdarno di Sopra Vigna dell'Impero offers aromas of candied cherry, blackberry, spice and leather. The finish is on the soft side, and I am assigning a slightly shorter drinking window for this warm vintage as a result. The fruit is concentrated and rich, thanks to the heat of the growing season. The wine ages in large oak casks for two years. Some 12,688 bottles were made.

Though ripe, sporting plum and cherry notes, this red is taut due to the lively acidity and dusty tannins. Hints of mint, iron and underbrush complete the profile. Shows fine balance and tension overall. Sangiovese. Best from 2021 through 2033.—B.S

Tenuta Sette Ponti
Sette Ponti se trouve à mi-chemin entre Arezzo et Florence dans la vallée de la rivière Arno, au cœur du pays de Chianti. Son nom fait allusion aux sept ponts qui relient les rives de l’Arno. L’ambitieux entrepreneur Antonio Moretti a contribué à amorcer un nouveau virage sur ces lieux toscans. Dans un laps de temps très court, il a réussi à faire émerger de merveilleux vins. Son domaine familial de 64 hectares, coordonné par le Dr Moretti Cuseri, élabore trois cuvées : Oreno, le plus international des trois ; Crognolo, qui révèle davantage le profil sucré du sangiovese, dont il est issu à 90% ; et un sangiovese non boisé, Vigna di Pallino au caractère typé cerise.
