Bonnes Mares 2009 75cl

The 2009 Bonnes-Mares comes across as rather understated at this stage. The 2009 is a sleek, pliant Bonnes-Mares that isn’t ready to show all of its cards just yet. Today the 2009 is surprisingly approachable, but my impression is that it will flesh out considerably with time in the cellar. A recent bottle of the 2002 was still quite primary, so when that might happen is anyone’s guess, but my sense is that patience will be rewarded. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.  Lalou Bize-Leroy’s wines need a lot of time in bottle. There is no getting around it. These 2009 reds, while beautiful, come across as very, very young, even within the context of the vintage. My only hope is to have an opportunity to taste them again at some point in the future.
