The 2019 Dragon de Quintus has turned out nicely, delivering a generous bouquet of rich, plumy fruit and creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's seamless and polished, with its sweet core of fruit framed by ripe tannins and succulent acids, concluding with an expansive finish. As usual, this bottling tends to derive from lower-lying parcels on deeper, sandier soils than those that inform the grand vin.

Château Quintus
Originariamente noto come Château Tertre Daugay, Château Quintus è stato acquistato nel 2011 da Domaine Clarence Dillon (di Châteaux Haut-Brion e La Mission Haut-Brion) e subito trasformato. La nuova proprietà è stata rinominata Quintus, nome comune nell’antica Roma per il quinto figlio. Per quanto riguarda la famiglia Dillon, in effetti, si tratta del quinto Grand Vin che producono, dopo i rossi e i bianchi di Haut-Brion e La Mission Haut-Brion. Nel 2013 la famiglia ha acquistato anche Château l'Arrosée, un’altra tenuta nella denominazione di Saint-Émilion, e i loro vigneti sono ora inclusi nella tenuta di Quintus. Oggi questa proprietà ha un totale di 28 ettari piantumati a Merlot (67%) con una percentuale inferiore di Cabernet Franc (33%). Oltre a fare il Château Quintus, i Dillon producono anche un secondo vino chiamato Le Dragon de Quintus. Entrambi i vini sono fatti dal vinificatore di Haut-Brion e La Mission, l’inimitabile Jean-Philippe Delmas.
