Grechetto is formally known as Grechetto Bianco (there is a Rosso version as well). It is most associated with central Italy, most specifically Umbria as it is one of the main varieties in Orvieto. Though it is now heavily associated with that region, its origins are thought to be Greek. It has thick skins, making it resistant to rot; however, it also has low yields and so for many years only constitued a small percentage within a blend.
