Friulano / Tocai Friulano

Friulano is best known for its role in white wines from Friuli, a town found in northeastern Italy. Formerly known as Tocai Friulano, Friulano produces sophisticated dry whites, which expose notes of citrus, almonds and fresh herbs. The Friuliano variety is thought to have originated in southwestern France, where it is called Sauvignonasse or Sauvignon Vert. In the vineyards, this white variety ripens reasonably early and is quite productive. The use of oak during maturation remains a highly controversial topic for the grape, therefore you can find both examples, with or without oak. While the finest varietal wines come from Fiuli, Friulano can also be found in Lombardy, on the southern end of Lake Garda, but also outside of Italy, in Chile. ...
