Spain

While Spain comes in third for worldwide wine production, they have remained the country with the most land under vine for many decades. Their diversity and innovation in the sector has led to Spain’s success in the world wine market, now representing over 60 different denominations (known as DO or DOCa). While their whites do not garner much recognition, they should not be overlooked, producing inventive blends including the native, Verdejo and Macabeo varieties. Their reds, however, have gained in popularity, the indigenous Tempranillo grape produces some of the country’s most beloved wines, while Garnacha (Grenache) represents Spain’s most planed grape variety. Some of our favorite Spanish wines come from the Rioja region, which is known for producing outstanding Tempranillo wines. While others originate from the Ribera del Duero and Priorat appellations, which produce equally brilliant high-quality reds from the Tempranillo and Garnacha varietals. ...
