Castilla y León

Castilla y León produces an impressive variety of wines including those from some of the most famed Denominaciones de Origen. Among these lies the renowned Ribera del Duero, which crafts fine reds of Tempranillo (also known as Tinta del País, Tinto de Toro and Tinto Fino); but also Rueda which is better known for their whites made from Viura, Sauvignon and Verdejo; while Toro produces strong, powerful reds along the Portuguese border. Located on the northern half of the central Iberian Plateau which sits between 700 - 1000 meters, this region stretches from the north coast all the way down to Madrid, and to the west, Castilla y León borders Portugal. Here the varied landscapes and climatic conditions make this possibly the most eclectic wine region in all of Spain. Spotted with far-reaching valleys, great flat plains and steep mountain chains, Castilla y León is home to several unique micro-climates that produce a wide array of wines that cater to all tastes.
