Nero d’Avola

Also known as Calabrese, Nero d’Avola is one of southern Italy’s top varieties, particularly in Sicily, where it features as its most planted red with 14,000 hectares. Though it can be in a lighter style, many producers develop its robust side through lower yields and barrel maturation. Deep in colour, it often displays notes of dark plums and chocolate.
