Negroamaro

Linked to the Puglia region in southern Italy for more than 1500 years, Negroamaro is an intense, dark-skinned grape variety that often produces rustic, raisiny reds.  Mainly grown in Apulia, found at the heart of the DOC, Negroamaro is used to produce both pure wines and in blends. Characterized by a late ripening process, this grape variety is usually harvested between the second and third week of September. Featuring medium-full tannins, and dark berry fruit flavors, Negroamaro can produce complex wines that offer spiced notes of cloves, cinnamon and black pepper. Today, a small amount of Primitivo is produced in California and Australia, but the best examples still come from the heel of Italy’s boot, specifically the Salice Salentino DOC. ...
