Montepulciano

Not to be confused with the Tuscan wine, Vino Nobile di Montepuliciano, whose main variety is Sangiovese, Montepulciano is a variety in its own right grown throughout central Italy, though its home is mostly in Abruzzo and in the Marche. Deeply coloured, it produces full-bodied wines with lots of dark fruit flavours and ripe, robust tannins. Depending on where and how it is grown, it can produce wines that are approachable upon release, such as the more supple-styled Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, or it can produce wines that need numerous years of bottle age before they hit their peak. ...
