Albert Bichot

One of the more prominent and better quality négociants in Burgundy, Maison Albert Bichot was established in 1831 by Bernard Bichot, the grandfather of the first of a series of Albert Bichot. Currently at the helm is Albéric Bichot, who became CEO in 1996 and has revitalized his family's business. They produce 157 different appellations from all Burgundy sub-regions from both their own 4 domaines and purchased grapes. Their domaines are run separately - one each in: Chablis (Domaine Long-Depaquit), Côte de Beaune (Domaine du Pavillon), Côte de Nuits (Domaine du Clos Frantin) and Côte Chalonnaise (Domaine Adélie). They have a vinification cellar in each of these establishments to better manage the winemaking process in order to better guarantee top quality. And this quality has not gone unnoticed. Over the last 10 years they have won a variety of awards including "Red Winemaker of the Year" in 2004 at the International Wine Challenge, "Best White Burgundy" Trophy at the 2009's Decanter Wine Awards and "White Winemaker of the Year" in 2011 at the International Wine Challenge. ...
Côte de Beaune

Côte de Beaune

The Côte de Beaune is one of Burgundy’s top viticultural regions, which is named after the town of Beaune. Found in eastern France, the Côte de Beaune is small, thin and long area that is about 5 kilometers wide and 15 kilometers long. Its size is similar to that of its northern sitting neighbor, the Côte de Nuits. These two districts make up the larger, Côte d’Or. With gently sloping hills, the vineyards benefit from ideal sun exposure, limestone-rich soils and their easy drainage. The region’s distinct zones are spilt into two parts, to the south there are the Montrachet villages that produce mainly white wines (including Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet and Meursault) and to the north there is the Corton hill which exclusively crafts reds (including Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, Volnay and Pommard). Like most regions in Burgundy, white wines are mostly made from Chardonnay and reds from Pinot Noir. However, in the Côte de Beaune white varieties like Aligoté, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris are also grown. ...
