A plush red, with an iron backbone. Ripe plum and currant flavors mingle with toasty and espresso notes, backed by well-integrated tannins and balsamic acidity. Has good density and balance, in the modern style. Tempranillo with Syrah. Drink now through 2025

Enormous mulberry nose and massive dry tannins, but they aren't aggressive or edgy, and this wine should age nicely. Excellent example from the region. Best from 2018

Bodegas Mauro

Bodegas Mauro

Bodegas Mauro sits just outside of the Ribera del Duero appellation, in the historic town of Tudela de Duero. Established in the 1970s by Mariano García, the former winemaker of the famous Vega Sicilia estate, he now owns two benchmark estates in Spain. With a rather small production of about 280,000 bottles a year, the 74-hectare estate is farmed organically preserving their grand terroir. Mauro produces three reds. Their forward-styled lavish Mauro. Their Mauro VS (Vendimia Seleccionada), which is crafted by only the best vines and experiences a longer ageing period. And lastly, their all-encompassing single-vineyard cuvée, Terreus, which is produced only in the best years. By the mid-1990s, García decided to open up another winery in Toro named Bodegas y Viñedos Maurodos. Today, it is one of the most influential estates in the region. Planted with Garnacha and Tinta de Toro, this 80-hectare property produces two wines. San Román is a structured, opulent wine, the tannins and oak build in the bottle making five or six years of ageing a worthwhile bet. While their second label, Prima, offers a typical full-bodied, and dark-fruited style at a great value. ...
Castilla y León

Castilla y León

Castilla y León produces an impressive variety of wines including those from some of the most famed Denominaciones de Origen. Among these lies the renowned Ribera del Duero, which crafts fine reds of Tempranillo (also known as Tinta del País, Tinto de Toro and Tinto Fino); but also Rueda which is better known for their whites made from Viura, Sauvignon and Verdejo; while Toro produces strong, powerful reds along the Portuguese border. Located on the northern half of the central Iberian Plateau which sits between 700 - 1000 meters, this region stretches from the north coast all the way down to Madrid, and to the west, Castilla y León borders Portugal. Here the varied landscapes and climatic conditions make this possibly the most eclectic wine region in all of Spain. Spotted with far-reaching valleys, great flat plains and steep mountain chains, Castilla y León is home to several unique micro-climates that produce a wide array of wines that cater to all tastes. There are the exuberant reds of Toro and the refined whites of Rueda, but also the Cava of Arando de Duero and the world class reds of Ribera del Duero – making Castilla y León a leader in Spain’s quality wines. ...
