Reviews & Ratings

A wine with beautiful strawberry and chocolate with hints of pie crust. It's full-bodied with super integrated tannins and a long, long finish. Needs at least four to five years to really come together but so wonderful. Not the amazing 2009 but clearly outstanding.
James Suckling
Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Malescot St. Exupery wafts gracefully out of the glass with scents of potpourri, raspberry coulis and kirsch over a cassis and warm plums core with a touch of pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy red and black fruits, sporting a firm, fine-grained texture and oodles of freshness. It has a good, long and remarkably pure finish.
Robert Parker Wine Advocate
This delivers a slightly chewy-edged feel, with charcoal and roasted alder hints holding sway over the core of steeped damson plum, black currant and anise notes. Shows grip through the finish, but stays long, featuring a lovely backdrop of tar and warm stone. The excellent range and drive should pay off in the cellar. Best from 2015 through 2030. –JM

Wine Spectator

A riper, fuller Margaux, Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry is a 3ème Grand Cru Classé property that has a history dating back to the 1600s. The estate owes its name to two preceding owners: Simon Malescot, an attorney general to the Bordeaux royalty who bought the château in 1987, and Count Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry, who owned the property from 1827 to 1853. In 1955 the Left Bank winery, however, was bought by the Zuger family, and has been led by Jean-Luc Zuger since 1994. Throughout the past sixty years, the family has made several large investments in the vineyards and winery that continue to accrue. Today, with ever-growing quality, the Malescot Saint-Exupéry’s coat of arms has never been truer: Semper Ad Altum, meaning Even Higher. The estate’s consulting vintner, the legendary Michel Rolland produces a single wine which is an unfiltered, barrique aged blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and smaller parts Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. As the flagship, Malescot St.-Exupéry develops beautifully with six or seven years of cellaring, making it a silky, elegant wine that few Margaux châteaux can match. ...
Margaux

Margaux

Margaux is one of the main appellations in Bordeaux’s Médoc which follows St. Estèphe, Pauillac and St. Julien down the Gironde estuary, but remains north of the city of Bordeaux. It is renowned for producing wines that are deep in colour with flesh in its core and lots of silk in its texture. Many Bordeaux connoisseurs prefer Margaux’s charm, which still delivers longevity. This is mostly due to its slightly different soil which produces this softness and allows for a higher proportion of Merlot. It is home to the eponymously named Château Margaux, its exceptional neighbour Palmer as well as other top estates such as Rauzan-Ségla, d’Issan, Brane Cantenac, Giscours and Malescot St. Exupéry. Out of all Medocain appellations, Margaux has the highest number of classified growth châteaux. ...
