Piedmont

One of the greatest wine regions in the world in terms of wine quality (and its renowned cuisine and white truffles), Piedmont is also home to Slow Food, further indicating how essential both good wine and food are to this northern region. Most vineyards are planted on hillside terraces that rise and descend numerous villages. Its most important grape in terms of quality is Nebbiolo, the moderately thin-skinned variety that is capable of producing lighter coloured, but powerful and spellbinding Barolos and Barbarescos that beautifully accompany much of its unique cuisine. However, numerous other grapes such as Barbera and Dolcetto are also noteworthy.
