Loire

After the Languedoc-Roussillon, the Loire is the largest (and longest) and one of the most diverse wine regions in France. It begins on the shores of the Atlantic around the city of Nantes. It is this brisk climate where crisp, lively Muscadet is produced. The region moves further east, flowing into red wine country around Angers, Saumur and Tours, most specifically Cabernet Franc, where delicious wines such as Chinon and Bourgueil are produced. Chenin Blanc, too, calls this home with its powerful Savennieres, and tender, refined and sometimes off-dry (or sparkling) Vouvrays and Montlouis. Domaine Huet is legendary for off-dry and sweet wines. The sub-regions furthest east are the home of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. It is here where aromatic and flavoursome Sancerres are produced as well as the powerful Pouilly Fumés of legendary producer Didier Dagueneau. ...
