Ticino

Ticino is Switzerland’s most southern wine producing region, located on the border with Italy and produces those wines that fall under the Ticino or Ticinese DOC. Though it began producing wine during the Roman Empire, it was not until the early 20th century that it began producing quality wine when it planted Merlot. This variety, when grown on the Ticinese hills, produces ample red wines that are velvety and notably fresh. However, other varieties are also present including Bondola, Pinot noir, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carminoir, Gamaret, Garanoir, Diolinoir and Ancellotta for red grapes; and Chasselas, Chardonnay, Doral, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Kerner and Muller-Thurgau for white grapes. Today, there are over 1100 hectares planted in the region. We are honoured to be able to work with a multitude of local producers; however, our personal favourite is Cantina Monti, one of the most unique and exceptional domaines of the region. ...
