Switzerland

As one of Europe’s smallest and most mountainous countries, Switzerland has nearly 16,000 hectares of vineyards along steep hillsides. However, these precipitous terroirs complicate and limit production. Therefore, the focus falls on quality rather than quantity, as a result most Swiss wines are locally enjoyed with only 1-2% of production exported. Despite its size, Switzerland offers some of the most diverse vinous regions, like the rugged Alps, that create multifaceted microclimates benefiting various grape varietals and styles. There is also the sunny, almost Mediterranean climate of southern Switzerland, where Merlot is favored, at averaging around 90% of planted vines. Grown among the mountains, on steep terraces, generous red wines that are smooth and notably crisp thrive, characteristically capturing the region in a bottle. We are proud to work with local producers, and especially with one of our favorites, Tenuta Castello di Morcote, that is one of the most impressive domains in Ticino. ...
