Château Pontac Monplaisir

This long established Pessac château was originally a hunting castle which belonged to the Counts of Pontac, who also owned Château Haut-Brion during the 16th and 17th centuries. During the French Revolution, the property was broken up and in 1920, the Maufras family acquired the property whose vineyards spread out over 50 hectares. In 1952, the owner’s son Jean, renovated the winery and the vineyards. Over the years, the family continued renovations and even prevented its dismantlement due to the urbanization of the city of Bordeaux. It is still owned by the Maufras family today, and they produce one white and two reds - Pontac Montplaisir and Cuvée Prestige – produced from organic grapes.
