From what many have called a Bordelais year, the 2015 Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae is slightly riper and a little lower in acidity, meaning it's more "civilized" than the previous and following vintages. All three years come from the same shallow soils that are rich in limestone and have a similar vinification and upbringing. These 2015s are more marked by the vintage than the other two, which seem to be more transparent to the terroir. This is my favorite of the 2015s. 4,800 bottles were filled in July 2017.
Producer
Bodega Catena Zapata
Nestled in the Andes foothills lies Catena Zapata, in Argentina’s most well-known wine-growing regions, Mendoza. As the country’s top estate, Catena Zapata is led by Nicolás Catena himself. Nicolás was the first person from South America to receive the prestigious Decanter Man of the Year award in 2009. With his deeply founded belief that Argentina could produce world-class wines, he began piecing together this wonderful vineyard starting in the 1960s. Today, these superbly managed high-altitude vineyards, ranging from impressive heights – 1000 meters to 1480 meters above sea-level – are at the heart of the bodegas’ success. Constantly improving their viticultural and vinification techniques, the innovative team now includes Nicolás’ daughter, Laura who has looked after the Research and Development program since 2001. Their incredible wines show notable transparencies between sites, altitudes, vintages and grape varietals, making Catena Zapata the benchmark Argentinian producer.
