The origins of Domaine Comtes Lafon began in the Pyrenees where Jules Joseph Barthélémy Lafon was born. He married Marie Boch whose family were wine merchants and estate owners in Meursault. It is their domaine which eventually became the base of the Lafon domaine, though Jules added much vineyard land over the years (and sold off some lesser quality vineyards from the Boch family), giving it a strong identity of its own. In addition to being a domaine owner, Jules also became the mayor of Meursault and established the renowned "Paulée de Meursault" while in office.
Today, his descendant, the innovative Dominique Lafon, has been running the domaine since 1985. He has over 6 hectares of wine vines, mostly across Meursault, but with also a smattering in Montrachet. He also has over 5.5 hectares of red - mostly in Volnay.
In 1999, Dominique added to his vineyard holdings in the Maconnais by buying an existing domaine in the western hills around Milly-Lamartine. Several years later, he added more land and today he produces Macon, Macon-Villages, Macon Milly Larmartine as well as 5 different single vineyard bottlings. Today, it totals around 19 hectares.
