Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cheval Blanc is still incredibly primary at this very youthful stage. With coaxing, it unfurls to reveal beguiling notions of ripe black cherries, mulberries, licorice, baking spices and smoked meats with touches of incense and potpourri plus wafts of cast iron pan and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, very rich, very firm/taut and with very ripe, fine-grained tannins, it allows a glimpse at its incredible depth of flavors with a very long multi-layered finish. Wow.

This is very Cheval soul and make feel very emotional drinking it! Flowers such as violet and lilac but also fruit of black raspberry and cherries. Very classy, it feel like drinking velvet whit super fine tannins. 12 harvest needed to pick up all the parcels of this puzzle vineyard which last over a month. Le Petit Cheval was not produced so all the good grapes stays in the Gran Vin for a whopping production of 100'000 bottles. 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Franc.

Phenomenal aromas of cherries, flowers, blackberries and sandalwood. Pure fruit. Full-bodied, dense and polished with incredible tannin quality like the finest, densest silk ball. In perfect proportions. Compact. Seamless and endless. Gorgeous to taste now but give it six or seven years to understand it better.

A lovely sanguine hint leads off, followed by racy, elegant juniper, tobacco, red currant and damson plum notes that move in unison. Broadens and deepens, adding notes of currant preserves, warm ganache and smoldering tobacco, with a swath of loamy structure. Yet even as the bass line increases in volume through the finish, this maintains purity and poise. Should deliver some stunning aromatics at peak, which will take awhile to achieve. Best from 2025 through 2045. 8,250 cases made.—J.M.

55 % Merlot, 45 % Cabernet Franc. 19/20 2024 – 2055

Château Cheval Blanc

Château Cheval Blanc

Producing phenomenal wines vintage after vintage, some being the most renowned wines in the world - the legendary Château Cheval Blanc lays at their forefront. Bernault Arnault and Albert Frère purchased the property in the late 1990s, sparing no expense the partners plan to make Cheval Blanc the greatest château on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Classified as a Grand Cru Classé A-grade property, Cheval Blanc owns unarguably the highest plantings of Cabernet Franc in Bordeaux. Bordering the Pomerol appellation, with over half of their 39-hectares of land planted to Cabernet Franc, the estate consists of forty-five separate plots scattered across the region. The unique patchwork of an estate, alongside the high proportion of Cabernet Franc, accounts for the wine’s great complexity. A classically styled Cheval Blanc can be described by its rich, concentrated and intensely complex dark berry fruit and all spice flavors. Ten years or more of ageing will display the structured silky texture of the Grand Vin, Cheval Blanc at its best. A truly unrivalled wine. ...
Saint-Émilion

Saint-Émilion

St. Emilion is one of the two main appellations on Bordeaux’s Right Bank (alongside Pomerol). It is also the name for one of the most beautiful villages in all of France that has operated as a mini capital alongside the city of Bordeaux. The soils are quite diverse, but its most famous is its creamy-coloured limestone which lies throughout the plateau and hillsides around the village of St. Emilion. It is, in fact, known for its labyrinth of limestone caves that lie below the town which were dug out to provide stone for its buildings. It is home to a plethora of top estates, including Châteaux Cheval-Blanc (which lies on the Pomerol border), Ausone, Troplong Mondot and Angélus. Its two main varieties are Merlot and Cabernet Franc, though small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Gris are also planted. ...
