Quinta do Noval

 Dear Wine Lover,

This is a great offer for all our Port lovers out there. Quinta do Noval’s not only one of the oldest port houses but it is by far the greatest and the maker of the most famous and sought after vintage ports. We have a wonderful assortment from Noval that are sure to impress your guests, including the 2003, 2004, 2011, 2013, 2014 & the latest release - 2015. Which has been rated with 95 points by both James Suckling and Wine Spectator, this is another great effort for the best Port producer in the world!

Created in 1715, this 145 hectares’ estate belonged to the Rebella Valenta family who received it from the hands of the Marquês de Pombal, Portugal’s most powerful Prime Minister and responsible for one of the world’s oldest established appellation (Douro DOC), in 1756. Nowadays, it belongs to the AXA Millésimes group, which also owns Château Pichon-Longueville Baron and Château Suduiraut, among many others. Porto vintage is only produced in great years, usually only 3 or 4 per decade, making this wine an absolute rarity.

This is the best moment to take advantage and secure yourself some bottles of this amazing Port!

75.0 cl Porto Vintage - Quinta Do Noval – 2003 CHF 85.00 (CHF 91.80 Vat Incl.)

Wine Spectator 96 points: What a nose. Ripe fruit, with chocolate, blackberries and raisins. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with velvety tannins. Finish goes on and on. Layered and wonderful. Best after 2014.

75.0 cl Porto Vintage - Quinta Do Noval – 2004 CHF 75.00 (CHF 81.00 Vat Incl.)?

Robert Parker 97 pointsThe 2004 Vintage Port "Nacional" is a declared Vintage Port aged for 18 months in wooden casks. An old vines field blend, it comes in at just 79 grams per liter of residual sugar, rather dry on paper and in perception. Typically graceful and leaning on elegance in the mid-palate, it is laced with some herbs and rhubarb up front. It is very aromatic and it opens with a distinctive flavor profile compared to others in the Vintage Port lineup that I had open. In the mid-palate, it seems like a very fine table wine in some ways, showing remarkable finesse and focus, and a rather dry finish. It is completely closed and gives little. The structure and the underlying concentration are all obvious, though. They are classic and they make this a cellar candidate from the get-go. Despite being over a decade old, this is tight, firm, powerful and too young. After playing around with it for several days, I saw it finally begin to blossom, to show fresh fruit and something besides austerity. By the end of the week, it was far more evolved, showing its wonderful concentration, increasingly interesting intensity of flavor and a long finish. It is never obvious, but it is always quite gorgeous. This is an old school Port on an old school schedule. It needs cellaring. If extended aeration makes it at least a bit approachable, it is not exactly showing all it has and all it can be. Be patient--even if it is more approachable in a decade or so, that won't be even close to its peak. If you're patient and young, give it a try around 2040.

75.0 cl Porto Vintage - Quinta Do Noval – 2011 CHF 115.00 (CHF 124.20 Vat Incl.)?

Wine Spectator 97 pointsVibrant, with luscious yet elegant mineral-infused flavors of dark currant, ripe cherry, green fig and raspberry. Shows ample pepper notes, with the tannins offering plenty of muscle and grip on the long, silky finish. Complex and restrained.

75.0 cl Porto Vintage - Quinta Do Noval – 2013 CHF 70.00 (CHF 75.60 Vat Incl.)?

Robert Parker 95 pointsThe 2013 Vintage Port is a blend of 20% Touriga Nacional; 10% Tinta Roriz and 70% old vines (of which Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz predominated, the winery noted), and it was aged for 18 months in wood. It comes in at 94 grams per liter of residual sugar. This 2013 completes Noval's unusual trilogy of declared Vintage Ports in 2011-2013. The quality justifies the declarations. Showing more concentration than the fresh 2012, also reviewed, this is pointed, powerful and intense, with serious grip on the finish. The initial impression of lushness fades quickly, because this is all about the power just now. You shouldn't even think of approaching it now. This will need a consumer with a cellar and some patience. That patience should be rewarded in time. All that said, by the end of the week, after some six days open, it actually started becoming more approachable. It wasn't quite as intense as the 2011 or as open as the 2012. Falling in the middle, it will certainly need time to come into full balance and become more expressive. It will reward your patience.

75.0 cl Porto Vintage - Quinta Do Noval – 2014 CHF 60.00 (CHF 64.80 Vat Incl.)?

James Suckling 96 points: This is a really fantastic young vintage Port showing terrific clarity and power. Full body and a tight center palate of blueberry and plum character. So long and persistent in the mouth. Goes on for minutes. Try in 2023 and beyond. Not a generally declared year for Port, but this is a stunner.

75.0 cl Porto Vintage - Quinta Do Noval – 2015 CHF 60.00 (CHF 64.80 Vat Incl.)

12 bottles or more at CHF 55.00 (CHF Vat Incl.)

Wine Spectator 95 points: This is very polished in feel, with a long, caressing, fine-grained structure that allows plum eau-de-vie, boysenberry puree and blackberry cobbler notes to play out at their leisure. Light anise and ganache hints accent the finish while the fruit blazes through.

James Suckling 95 points: Exquisite aromas of blackberry, stone, violet and blueberry. Lead pencil too. Ink. Full body, chewy and linear with super polished yet intense tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Classic Noval character through a direct punch to the palate. This needs at least until 2022 to open but already excellent.
