Château Belle Coline: The Côtes de Blaye Hidden Gem

Dear Wine Lover,

I’m more than happy to introduce you to a wonderful new wine in our collection. During one of our trip to Bordeaux, we discovered this hidden gem from the Côtes de Blaye, that is definitely worth a try. Owned by Christophe Reboul Salze, famous Bordeaux negociant and owner of the renowned Château Les Grands Maréchaux and Château Gigault, this 12 hectares estate named Château Belle Coline is situated on the hill side at east of Blaye with a full south exposition on a rare clay soil, comparable with the best terroir of the Bordeaux First Growth vineyards.

Just as for all Christophe Reboul Salze wines, Stéphane Derenoncourt is the exclusive consultant and with the help of Fabien Chenier, they produce in a total bio-alternative way this superb atypical Bordeaux blend. In fact, thanks to this superb terroir and the 45/60 years old vines, they managed to produce a 90% Merlot, in the perfect right-bank style, but with a personal touch of Malbec. Produced at only 40’000 bottles per vintage this is a concentration of freshness, deepness, ripped fruit, power and elegance.

Even our Head Sommelier, Davide Vaccarini, fell in love with this Belle Coline, insisting to propose it to our customers as a such secret shouldn’t remain only for some. He liked it so much that he awarded this Belle Coline with superb points, which is impressive for a wine in this price range.

75.0 cl Château Belle Coline - Côtes de Blaye - 2014 CHF 18.00 (CHF 19.45 Vat incl.)

Magnums at CHF 45.00 (CHF 48.60 Vat incl.)

Doubles magnums at CHF 120.00 (CHF 129.60 Vat incl.)

Davide Vaccarini 17.5 points: Even though this red wine is from Blaye, it reminds me more of a Margaux. Not to mention, it has a wonderful quality to price ratio. It’s not overly complex yet very well made. There are intense floral notes of violets and a nice bouquet of spices on the nose, like nutmeg and black pepper. The palate reveals smokier flavors, which are slightly earthy, including notes of tobacco, ripe fruits and well integrated tannins. This wine is very easy to drink; I would say it’s the perfect wine to sip during aperitif or at home for those laidback nights in front the TV. Enjoy now or cellar for a few years.
