Montrose 2009: 100 Parker & 100 Suckling & 20 Gabriel

Dear Wine Lover,

We had a fantastic tasting on 2009 Bordeaux and above all wines.. the winner was Montrose 2009. It was clearly the wine that impressed us all the most. No wonder that every important wine critic gave it a straight 100 Point. We totally agree, the wine is just magical and will be even better than the 1990 Montrose in a few years.

It is already a legend, here bellow a few comments by the most important wine critics:

Parker 100 Points:  “A colossal effort, the 2009 Montrose represents a hypothetical blend of the monumental duo of 1989 and 1990 combined with the phenomenal 2003.”

Suckling 100 Points: “Speechless. Better and cleaner than the great 1990.” (Montrose 1990 is sold today for CHF 650.00 + Vat per bottle!!!)

René Gabriel 20/20 Points: “this Montrose 2009 is absolutely perfect”!

All wines are coming directly from the chateau, they in perfect condition and in original wooden cases.

75.0 cl Château Montrose 2009 – St Estèphe CHF 265.00 (CHF 286.20 Vat Incl.)

36 bottles or more at CHF 260.00 (CHF 280.80 Vat Incl.)

Some Magnums at CHF 650.00 (CHF 702.00 Vat Incl.)

Very few Double Magnums at CHF 1’600.00 (CHF 1’728.00 Vat Incl.)

Robert Parker 100 points : A colossal effort, the 2009 Montrose represents a hypothetical blend of the monumental duo of 1989 and 1990 combined with the phenomenal 2003. With 13.7% alcohol (an all-time high at Montrose), it is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and the rest tiny quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Some structure and minerality can be detected in the background, but the overall impression is one of massive blackberry, black currant and mulberry fruit intermixed with forest floor, damp earth, crushed rocks and a hint of spring flowers. Full-bodied with sweet but abundant tannin, Jean-Bernard Delmas believes this is the greatest wine he has made during his short tenure at Montrose since retiring from Haut-Brion. This wine will undoubtedly shut down for a decade, then unleash its power, glory and potential perfection.

Rene Gabriel 20 Points: Incredible, dense, almost black with an impenetrable middle. Lots of spice, spicier rather than fruity at the moment, smoke, truffles, a hint of currants, mocha and dark noble wood, Havana- case, extremely profound, it calls to mind its own 2003 vintage. Monumental on the palate with a distinct demanding astringency, not masochistic but yearning, the meaty tannins are surrounded by enamel and show the special class of its tannins. On the finale almost dramatic with an extremely long finish. Its greatness is best to be compared with the 1989 vintage, but that shows unfortunately some improvisation in the vinification. This 2009 vintage, however, shows absolute perfection in its style. Hold (2019-2060)

James Suckling 100 Points: Blueberries, currants and Indian spices on the nose follow through to a full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a lovely finish. It's intense and refined. A beauty. It goes on for minutes. Speechless. Better and cleaner than the great 1990. Try in 2022.
