Dear Wine Lover,
After the last weeks successful releases of some of the most important non bordeaux wines from all over the world, we are proud to propose you of one of the greatest Merlot from Ticino: Fuoco by Castello di Morcote 2013.
Produced by one of the most beautiful properties on the Lugano Lake, Castello di Morcote, Fuoco is the newest project of charismatic owner Gaby Giannini, who managed to convince one of the most talented Italian winemakers, Luca dAttoma, to come to our beautiful country and advise her on producing first growth quality wines in Switzerland.
Fuoco 2013 has been made under the supervision of one of the most influential oenologists in the world, the Italian Luca dAttoma, who has played a big role in the success of some of the greatest Italian wines such as Redigaffi (tua rita), Saffredi (pupille), Duemani and many more.
Castello di Morcote is situated on the Arbostora promontory, completely encircled by Lake Ceresio. The picturesque villages of Morcote, Vico Morcote are famous for their cobbled streets, arcades and houses enhance the scenery with ancient and evocative charme. This castle was built by the Visconti Dukes from Milan in the 15th century at around 200 metres above the lake level, overlooking the Morcote village surrounded by its vineyards. At the end of the 80s a new vineyard was designed by planting more than 20,000 varieties on a surface of around 100,000 square meters. The vineyards produced their first wine in 1993, as well as the classic Merlot DOC whose grapes created a white barrel-aged Merlot DOC and a Riserva DOC. This unique terroir is characterised by a microclimate regulated by the lake surface which provides constant ventilation for the south-facing terraces. All the vineyards are biodynamic, thanks to a gradual avoidance of systematic treatments.
The bad news is that it is a micro cuvée, only 840 bottles, 60 Magnums 5 Double Magnums and 3 Imperials were produced indeed! What makes these bottles even more unique is that they are all singularly numbered making it a must-have for every wine lover or collector.
Fuoco 2013, a 100% Merlot, was created out by this very special biotope offering a huge quality thanks to a magnificent vintage and to a longer ageing process in casks. As you may know, most of Ticino producers are releasing their 2016 vintage, whereas Castello di Morcote has just realeased Fuoco 2013, making it already much more approachable and more ready to drink. In addition, all bottles are numbered and come in original wooden cases.
