Almaviva 2016: Rothschild family & ConchaYToro did it again

Dear Wine Lover,

As preannounced, we have the release of the most iconic Chilean wine: Almaviva, so here is the chance for you to secure some of the greatest Chilean wine, a brand that is having also a great success in the Asian Market. This is also the reason why it seems impossible to find older vintages on the market, so better to secure the wine immediately.

Almaviva was started in 1997 out of partnerships with the Rothschild family (Château Mouton Rothschild) and Chile's Concha y Toro with the aim to produce 1st growth quality wine in Chile. Now with over 20 vintages under their belts they have long-established themselves in the wine world, creating one of the best Exotic Bordeaux blends nowadays on the market. Almaviva 2016 will for sure delight any Bordeaux aficionado who is looking for something familiar, yet different and particular.

The name Almaviva, though it has an Hispanic sonority, belongs to classical French literature: Count Almaviva is the hero of The Marriage of Figaro, the famous play by Beaumarchais (1732-1799), later turned into an opera by the genius of Mozart. The label, meanwhile, pays homage to Chile’s ancestral history, with three reproductions of a stylised design, which symbolises the vision of the earth and the cosmos in the Mapuche civilization. The design appears on the kultrun, a ritual drum used by the Mapuche.

Almaviva was the first wine in Chile created under this French Château concept, taking into account exceptional terroir, one unique bodega and one technical team – the three of which are dedicated exclusively to the production of one wine of unparalleled quality and excellence.

Almaviva 2016 the second best scored Almaviva yet (after the 2015). As you purchased 2008, this 2016 is not to be missed, especially at these special pre-arrival conditions! Robert Parker’s wine advocate has not rated the wine yet.

James Suckling 97points: A very fine and elegant Almaviva with fresh fruit and herb character. Medium-to-full body, tight and focused with very fine, linear tannins and a chocolate and light cedar undertone to the whole thing. Savory, too. Smoked meat and succulent. It's tight but opens with air. Classicism here. 66% cabernet sauvignon, 24% carmenere, 8% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Drink in 2021.
