Dear Wine Lover,
Chateau Gazin, in our opinion one of the most undervalued wines in Bordeaux. The quality has been astonishing for the last 20 years and prices are still affordable, cheaper than for example Tignanello! The Château and vineyards are located just next to Chateau Pétrus benefiting from the same terroir, climate and soil conditions.
The Château has a huge history , tradition and know how built over 8 centuries. The vineyards of Pomerol gradually developed between the 12th century and the French Revolution under the aegis of the knights of Saint-Jean of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta. Château GAZIN, which was a hamlet in the 18th century, is probably located on the site of the "Hospital of Pomeyrols", built by the knights to receive pilgrims on the Santiago de Compostela route.
The 2014 vintage was a great one for Bordeaux, but especially for the right bank were many outstanding wines were produced. The grape variety which achieved the best quality is definitely Merlot, and luckily Gazin 2014 is a blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc! James Suckling recently rated this vintage with 95 points putting it on the same level of the legendary 2009 and 2010 vintages selling at almost double the price! Only 5000 cases have been produced and we were lucky enough to have secured some serious quantities during the En Primeur campaign 3 years ago, otherwise it would be impossible to find this wine at such favorable conditions now!
We personally see terrific value in the 2014, as other vintages are well about CHF 100.00, here below current market prices of recent vintages:
Gazin 2005 - CHF 120.00
Gazin 2009 - CHF 120.00
Gazin 2010 - CHF 125.00
Gazin 2015 - CHF 85.00
Gazin 2016 - CHF 90.00 en primeur
Gazin 2017 - CHF 79.85 en primeur
75.0 cl Château Gazin - Pomerol - 2014 CHF 66.00 (CHF 71.10 Vat Incl.)
For 12 bottles or more at CHF 63.00 (CHF 67.85 Vat Incl.)
For 36 bottles or more at CHF 60.00 (CHF 64.60 Vat Incl.)
James Suckling 95 points: The soy-sauce and savory aromas really make this stand out, but behind it are some very nice fruit and elegant tannins. This is a very well-made modern Pomerol with a lot of potential that needs some time to reveal its full class. Give it five or six years of bottle age.
